Import and export locations

The CSV import lets you create or update many locations in one go. A four-step assistant walks you through it.

Overview

You find the import under Import & Export in the app. The assistant has four steps:

  1. Choose file – upload a CSV file
  2. Map columns – match each column to a field
  3. Review – preview with errors and warnings per row
  4. Import – locations are created or updated

You can import up to 5,000 rows per run. For larger data sets, split the file.

Preparing the CSV file

Use Sample file to download a template. Column names are up to you; you match them in step two. The assistant recognises common German and English headers automatically.

These fields are available:

FieldRequiredRecognised from e.g.
NameyesName, Store, Location, Title
Street & no.Street, Address
PostcodeZip, Postcode, Postal
CityyesCity, Town
CountryCountry
PhonePhone, Tel
E-mailEmail, E-mail
WebsiteWebsite, URL, Homepage
LatitudeLatitude, Lat
LongitudeLongitude, Lon, Lng
CategoryCategory, Type
StatusStatus

You can also map any column to one of your custom fields. Numbers, yes/no values and dates (for example 31.12.2026) are converted accordingly.

Encoding and separators

  • Save the file as UTF-8 so accents and special characters come through correctly. In Excel, the format is called "CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)".
  • The import detects semicolon, comma and tab separators automatically.
  • If a value contains the separator itself, put it in double quotes.
  • The first row must contain the column headers.

Country

Use two-letter country codes, for example DE, AT, GB or US. If the country is missing, DE is assumed.

Coordinates or address?

For an exact position on the map, every location needs latitude and longitude. We recommend including latitude and longitude columns, for example from your ERP or a geocoding service.

A geocoding service that fills in missing coordinates from the address is coming soon. Until then, positions without supplied coordinates are only approximate. Check those locations after the import and correct the position if needed.

Both point and comma work as decimal separators (53.8670 or 53,8670).

Categories and statuses

Unknown categories and statuses in the file are created automatically during the import. The preview marks them as "new". For rows without a value you choose a default category and a default status.

Review and import

In step three you see how many rows can be imported, how many have warnings and how many have errors. Only issues hides the rows without problems.

  • Errors (for example name or city missing): these rows are skipped.
  • Warnings (for example invalid e-mail, duplicate name in the file, no coordinates): these rows are imported.

Existing locations

If a location with the same name already exists, you decide:

  • Update – the existing location is overwritten with the values from the file
  • Skip – the existing location stays as it is

History and undo

Under History you see every import with file, date, user and result. Imports from the last 90 days can be undone. Undo removes newly created locations; updates to existing locations are kept.

Export

In the Export tab you choose

  • the fields to include (including opening hours, services and custom fields), and
  • which locations – filtered by status and category.

The file is created as CSV with UTF-8 and semicolons and opens directly in Excel. Use it for partners, accounting or as a backup. A complete copy of your account data (ZIP with CSV and JSON files) is also available for download in Settings.

Common problems

  • Broken accents or umlauts: the file is not UTF-8. Save it again in Excel as "CSV UTF-8".
  • Everything ends up in one column: the separator was not detected. Check that the header row uses the same separator as the rest of the file.
  • "Please map Name and City": assign a column to both required fields in step two.
  • Excel file is not accepted: save the sheet as CSV and upload that.
