Stockist or My Store Locator?
Stockist is lean, affordable and popular with Shopify merchants. My Store Locator focuses on hosting in Germany, a built-in consent mode and team roles. An honest comparison.

What Stockist does well
Stockist is a deliberately simple store locator, and it does several things well:
- Low entry price: the smallest plan costs $10 a month, or $8 a month billed yearly.
- A strong Shopify app: Stockist is listed in the Shopify App Store and well reviewed there, so setup for Shopify merchants is straightforward.
- Search analytics with a heatmap, breakdowns by city and country, and export of search data.
- Unlimited filters and custom fields, custom pins, address autocomplete.
- No setup fees, no long contracts, and a 14-day trial.
If you run a Shopify store with a manageable number of stockists and price is your main concern, Stockist is an obvious candidate.

Where the differences are
Map costs. According to Stockist's website, unlimited traffic depends on your own Google Maps or Mapbox key. The map provider then bills you directly – depending on your traffic that can add cost, and you need an account with payment details there. With My Store Locator the map (OpenStreetMap) is included in the plan; in return, each plan has a monthly cap on map views. How Google bills for maps is covered in Building a Google Maps locator yourself.
Data protection. We host in Germany, provide a DPA inside the app and ship a consent mode. Our statistics use daily counters, without cookies and without stored IP addresses. We found no statement on hosting location or GDPR on Stockist's website – that does not mean there is none. If it matters to you, ask the vendor. More on GDPR & security.
Team. When several people maintain locations, roles help: with us, a store manager can edit only their own locations, and a viewer can only read.
Shopify. Stockist has the edge here: it has its own app in the Shopify App Store. We do not (yet); you add My Store Locator through a custom Liquid section – see the Shopify guide.
Which one should you choose?
Stockist is likely the better fit if
- you run a Shopify store and prefer an app from the App Store,
- you show a small number of stockists and price matters most,
- you already use a Google Maps or Mapbox key.
My Store Locator is likely the better fit if
- hosting in Germany, a DPA and a consent mode matter to you,
- you do not want to manage your own map key,
- you need several layouts, opening hours with special days, or enquiries through the map,
- several people with different permissions work on the data,
- you prefer a German-language interface.
FAQ
Can I move my data from Stockist?
Yes. Export your locations as a spreadsheet, save it as CSV and import it. You map the columns during import, up to 5,000 rows per run. See Import.
Does My Store Locator work in Shopify?
Yes, through a custom section with the embed code. We do not currently have an app in the Shopify App Store.
Do I need my own map key?
