How the tool works

  1. Choose a file. One row per location, the headers in the first row. The tool reads CSV files (semicolon, comma or tab) and Excel workbooks in .xlsx format. For Excel the first sheet is used.
  2. Match the columns. We recognise the usual headers such as name, street, postcode, city, country, phone and website ourselves. You check the result and change it if needed. Only name and city are required.
  3. Check the map. After you click "Show the map" we look up the addresses and place a pin for every location we find. If latitude and longitude are already in your file, we use them directly.
  4. Save it for free. With "Save it for free now" you create a free account. The locations are then in your first map. There you pick a template, adjust the colours and embed the store locator on your website.

The matching template

The quickest way is our CSV template. It opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Numbers and has these columns.

ColumnExampleNote
NameSample Store City CentreRequired. This is how the location is called on the map.
StreetExample Street 1Street and house number in one column.
ZIP60313Format it as text so that a leading zero stays (01067).
CityFrankfurt am MainRequired.
CountryDECountry code or name, for example AT or Austria. Without a value the country you choose in the tool applies.
Phone+49 69 000000Optional.
Websitehttps://www.example.com (external link)Optional.

Latitude and longitude are optional. If you already have the coordinates, add two columns with these headers. Our guide plot addresses from Excel on a map explains how to prepare the sheet.

What happens to your file

We built the tool so that as little data as possible leaves your computer. You find the exact wording in the privacy policy.

When you choose the file

Your browser reads the file itself. Nothing is uploaded, not a single column and not the file name.

When you click "Show the map"

For the pins your browser sends only street, postcode, city and country of rows without coordinates to app.my-store-locator.com. Our server uses them to ask our own map server in Germany. The addresses are neither stored nor logged and not passed on to third parties. Our server does not pass on your IP address. The map images come from our server as well.

When you click "Save it for free now"

Only now does your browser send the matched columns (name, address, country, phone, website, coordinates) and the file name to our server in Germany. We keep them there as a draft without your IP address. As soon as you have created your account, we import the locations into your first map and delete the draft. If you do not create an account, the draft is deleted automatically after 24 hours. All other columns of your file never leave your browser.

Limits of the tool

The tool shows up to 500 rows. The Free plan includes up to 25 locations and one map. If not all rows fit into your plan, we import as many as possible and tell you how many are left. With a larger plan you import the complete file in the app under "Import & export", up to 5,000 rows at once. You can compare the plans on the pricing page.

FAQ

Do I have to sign up for the preview?

No. Choosing the file, matching the columns and looking at the map works without an account. You only create a free account to save.

Which files can I upload?

CSV files with semicolon, comma or tab as separator and Excel workbooks in .xlsx format. Please save old Excel files (.xls) as .xlsx or CSV UTF-8 first.

Why do some locations have no pin?

Then we could not find the address clearly, often because of a typo or a missing postcode. You can correct the row in the file and load the file again. After saving you can also place the pin in the app with one click on the map.

What happens to my data if I do not save?

Then the data stays in your browser only and is gone as soon as you close the page. Addresses sent for the pins are not stored.

Can I change the locations later?

Yes. In the app you edit every location, add opening hours, categories and photos, and import further lists.

Try it with your own locations.
